My story
Hi, I'm Ben-Oní
I’m a clinical psychology doctoral student providing low-cost, sliding scale therapy. As a trans pangender, queer, Black, and neurodivergent person, I bring a compassionate, lived experience to my work with clients navigating identity, mental health, and systemic oppression.
My goal is to help you stop feeling disconnected and start fostering self-compassion, growth, and a life that feels authentic and affirming.
My Journey To Becoming
A Therapist
My journey to becoming a therapist is rooted in a deep passion for understanding and supporting others. I know what it’s like to feel unseen and to wonder if there’s a space where your whole self can be understood. As a Black, queer, trans pangender, and neurodivergent person, I’ve often longed for care that truly reflects my experiences.
When I learned that only 4% of psychologists in the United States are Black, it became clear to me just how much work still needs to be done to ensure everyone has access to affirming, culturally responsive care. That’s why I became a therapist: to provide the kind of compassionate support I know can make a difference.
When we work together, I’m here to meet you exactly where you are. My goal is to create a space where you can bring all of yourself—your strengths, your struggles, and even the parts you may feel hesitant to share. Together, we’ll work toward healing, growth, and a life that feels truly aligned with who you are.
Helping People Is A Gift To Others, But Also Myself
Being a therapist is an honor.
I love guiding people towards figuring stuff out and seeing them finally getting the life they desire. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is knowing that I had a part in helping someone else transform their life.
I am committed to encouraging you to see healing and transformation are possible.
I Have Empathy For Others And Bring Heart And Warmth To Sessions
I have a natural ability to:
People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people feel heard and understood which helps people feel seen and start to heal.
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
Sessions will provide you with the space to focus on yourself without feeling selfish. In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals and be understood and heard.
My goal is to create a culturally-affirming space where we acknowledge and navigate systemic barriers that block the path to your authenticity. You are the expert of your experience and I’m here as a witness, advocate, guide, and mirror, always adjusting to meet your needs.
I look forward to co-creating a space just for you!

My Professional Background
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in African American History from Princeton University and a Master’s degree in Autism Spectrum Disorders. My academic and professional journey has always centered on understanding and advocating for marginalized communities.
As the founder of Black Neurodiversity, I’ve worked to create a platform that highlights the unique experiences and challenges faced by Black neurodivergent individuals. This work has deepened my commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in mental health spaces. Currently, I am pursuing a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Saybrook University.
